picnic

I was thinking about words and wondered where this word came from doesnt sound like a english word more likley scandanavian?

got the answer

The first usage of the word was traced to a 17th century French text—the 1692 edition of Origines de la Langue Française de Ménage—which mentions ‘pique-nique’ as being of recent origin, marks the first appearance of the word in print. The term was used to describe a group of people dining in a restaurant who brought their own wine. The word picnic is based on the verb piquer which means ‘pick’ or ‘peck’ with the rhyming nique meaning “thing of little importance”.

The word picnic first appeared in English texts in the mid-1700s, and may have entered the English language from this French word or from the German Picknick.

the human condition

Must admit in my job I come across a lot of people who are a feeling good /bad /terrible/tired/weary/lethargic an their moods reflect this.
In other words the full range of feelings. I have often admired people who are consisitent and generally feel and act the same all the time.
As humans I guess this is not that easy as the amount of factors that go in to our lives generally influence how we are feeling at any one time. To be able to deal with this and still act and feel the same takes some doing.
Or is it only me thinks this way as I tend to change my thoughts and feelings according to the situation and generally my mood reflects this.
